Give Me Libby, or Give Me Death: Part 5 - Vol. 3 Issue 66

Now comes the Appeal and the Pardon in this modern tragedy. Oh yes, it IS a tragedy. For a man from the top of our society, who was trained to be an integral part of the American ruling class (whether Jewish or not), Mr. Libby has fallen very far. As a matter of basic humanity, I feel empathy for a man who is facing several years in prison. Not only will he be away from his beloved wife and children, but also for a man who prepped at Andover, graduated magna cum laude from Yale and rose to become one of the most powerful men in the world, he will now have to face complete disgrace and an almost infinitely long fall. God knows the jury system is not perfect! However, in Libby’s case, he certainly had the advantage of the best defense that money could buy. The list of well-known folks who gave big money to Libby’s defense “committee” reads like a Who’s Who of the right-wing Washington elite, including: Henry Kissinger, Donald Rumsfeld and many other nefarious and wealthy characters. In fairness, the list also includes James Carville, former Middle East Envoy, Dennis Ross and several other Democrats. And here’s a curious irony: Mrs. Libby was a Democrat who served as counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee during the confirmation of Clarence Thomas. We don’t know if she is still a Democrat. That it is surely doubtful.

Reggie Walton is known to be a very tough “law and order” Judge Walton was appointed to the Federal Bench by George W. Bush. There is little chance that he will grant Libby’s request to remain free pending the Appeal. That means that our boy Scooter will probably be heading off to Allenwood, or some other minimum-security prison very soon. This will force the President’s hand regarding the Pardon. The rationale for pardoning Libby now is simple, Bush’s approval rating is so low that he risks very little by issuing a pardon before the result of the Appeal is known. After all, he’s not likely to lose the remaining 30% who are impervious to thought and loyal to the President to the bitter end. If “W” fails to pardon Mr. Libby before Libby has to report to prison, the Republican base will go berserk! It won’t surprise me, whether Bush does or doesn’t pardon Scooter. If Libby doesn’t get a pardon, the President is an even bigger bastard than I previously thought. Stay tuned; this story is far from over.

Knowing it’s the rule of law, I remain

Savant
