Free Paris Hilton! (And Other Signs of the Apocalypse)

Yes, we are facing the “end of days.” As the whole media driven celebrity mad world knows, poor Paris Hilton has been ordered to serve 45 days in the L.A. County Jail. It seems that Ms Hilton listened to her publicist’s legal opinion that, despite being placed on probation for multiple drunk driving offenses, she was still allowed to drive to and from “work.” See, ABS-CBN News. The judge in her DUI case did not agree! He ordered her to report to jail immediately. Paris fired her flak and has protested the “unfairness and cruelty” of her harsh sentence. Naturally, she has appealed the sentence.

Here is where the story gets good: For apparently, Paris Hilton’s fans have started a website called “Free Paris.com.” I tried to find it but couldn’t. When hearing this news, can any of us doubt that our civilization is crumbling? While more kids die in Iraq, gas goes to $4.00 a gallon and there are 46 Million of us without health care, we distract ourselves with meaningless trivia. People actually care about celebrities because thinking about them prevents self-reflection. Given the status of our world today, I don’t blame those suffering from obsession with celebrities. As a matter of fact, FREE PARIS NOW! Somebody has to stand up for that pathetic girl ...
