Mea Culpa: Obama Wins Iowa and Savant Eats Crow - Vol. 4 Issue 1

The taste of crow has never been sweeter! My prediction for yesterday’s Democratic caucus was Edwards 34%, Obama 29% and Hillary 26%. While not a crazy notion, I was dead wrong about the order of the #1 and #2 candidates. I was also wrong about the size of the victory and the extremely close finish between Edwards and Clinton for second place.

Being wrong in this case doesn’t bother me that much. The real story was the amazing voter turnout and the fact that 50% of the Democratic Caucus-goers were new to the process. There is renewed energy and confidence among Democrats. Finally, anyone who saw Obama’s victory speech now realizes that he is not media creation. Obama is the real thing, a gifted orator as well as an effective politician. While nothing is certain in love, war or politics, one thing is sure: barring a catastrophe, Barack Obama will be a powerful player in Democratic politics for a long time to come.

Your newly humbled servant,

Savant
